High-Tech Equipment Places Stratus
in Elite Class for Granite Fabrication
The fabrication equipment found at Stratus Marble & Granite's Traverse City facility gives the operation fully digital capabilities, and makes it one of the most highly technical shops in the country.
Stratus fabricates and installs granite, marble and other natural stones, as well as manufactured quartz products such as Dupont Zodiaq and Silestone (please see our Services page for a complete list). Utilizing our fully digital systems, a typical job follows this process:
- After customer stone selection, project templating is completed at the job site using the stone industry's fastest and most accurate digital templating system (see photos at right).
- At the fabrication shop, template information is then sent digitally to a fully automated stone saw which precision cuts pieces from the stone slabs selected for each job.
- Our Z Bavelloni CNC (computer numerically controlled) machine then precision-shapes the stone pieces, including profiling and polishing edges to customer specifications.
This digitized process streamlines and accelerates the fabrication process, freeing up our stone craftsmen and service people to work on the "human side" of the business: consulting, hand finishing, and completing installations for customers.
Where do our slabs come from?
Stratus maintains relationships with several natural stone importers in the Midwest, providing customers an exceptionally diverse inventory of full slabs, as well as the ability to secure stone from around the world.
In-House Design Staff & Installation Personnel
Our experienced, highly trained personnel work on residential and commercial jobs including new-build and remodeling projects with a wide variety of customers from homeowners to architects, designers and builders.
Slabs On-Site for Customer Selection
We maintain a variety of full slabs on site for client review and selection. Our inventory changes frequently, and we work with several regional stone importers to bring in specific stones our customers have chosen.
Following your stone selection, our field measurement technician will visit your job site to obtain a digital template of the project surfaces. Digital measurement makes the templating process more efficient than traditional wood templates. Greener, too!
The technician uses a stylus attached to the unit to digitally record points of the job layout.
Final adjustments are made directly on the unit's LED screen. In our production shop, the digital file is transferred to computer for the next steps in the stone fabrication process.
After your specific job pieces are cut on our fully automated stone saw, the CNC (computer numerically controlled) machine below precision shapes the stone pieces and profiles edges to job specifications.
